Chinese President Vows Boosting China-India Strategic and Cooperative Partnership Chinese President Xi Jinping has pledged to boost the strategic and cooperative partnership between China and India.He made the remarks during talks with his visiting Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday in Beijing.President Xi said the two sides should stick to the theme of neighborly friendship and reciprocal cooperation, in a bid to cement the China-Indian relationship and benefit the peoples of both countries."We are willing to work with the Indian side to carry forward the tradition of mutual learning of civilization between the two nations, enhance the bilateral comprehensive cooperation, so as to push the China-Indian strategic partnership to a new level, promote the common development between both sides, and make greater contributions to regional and world peace and prosperity."The Chinese President said that the two nations should consolidate political trust and appropriately address their differences.He also suggested the two sides support each other in regional and global affairs and urged joint efforts on their development strategies.For his part, Mukherjee said the bilateral cooperation between the two sides can benefit the people of the two countries and the whole of humanity."India and China are two large growing economies and major powers on the world stage. We represent over 40 percent of humanity. Our relations transcend the bilateral meetings and have strategic significance. If we come together, we can generate tremendous momentum for peace, prosperity and development."He added that his country stands ready to expand trade and investment cooperation with China, as well as enhance people-to-people exchanges and communications.The Indian President is making a 4-day state visit to China, which has already taken him to Guangzhou, capital city of south China's Guangdong Province.

Chinese Leaders Extend Condolences over Sri Lanks's Devastating Floods Chinese leaders have extended condolences and sympathy to the Sri Lanka government and people over the tragic flooding and landslides around the country caused by heavy rains.The devastating disaster, recorded as one of the worst in Sri Lanka's history, has claimed at least 102 lives and affected over 600 thousand people.The Chinese government has announced 1.5 million U.S. dollars emergency humanitarian cash assistance to Sri Lanka, and said it would continue to provide necessary assistance for the relief and reconstruction work.A number of Chinese firms involved in projects in Sri Lanka have also been at the forefront providing relief supplies and funds to the victims.Over 54 thousand U.S. dollars in financial aid provided to the Sri Lanka government by these companies and relief supplies have been distributed in some of the worst flood hit areas.Meanwhile, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Red Cross Society, have launched a 3.6 million U.S. dollar emergency appeal to help deliver relief and recovery assistance.The appeal will ensure that people staying in temporary camps have access to safe water and sanitation, and 1000 community wells are to be de-contaminated.

China rejects U.S. aircraft surveillance over South China Sea China's military has rejected U.S. claims that Chinese jets carried out an "unsafe" intercept of an American Navy reconnaissance aircraft over the South China Sea, and demanded the U.S. ends such action.The Pentagon says two Chinese J-11 fighters unsafely intercepted a U.S. EP-3 Aries aircraft on May 17, which it said was conducting routine operations in international airspace.Yang Yujun, spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense, told a news conference that China's aircraft acted professionally and in line with a China-U.S. encounter safety code agreed by both sides.Yang noted that the code only provided a technical regulation, and said that the best solution was for the United States to stop such action.Yang said America's frequent reconnaissance missions over Chinese waters posed a real source of danger for China-U.S. military safety.

China Expresses Confidence on Settling Disputes with Vietnam Peacefully A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson says China and Vietnam are able to settle their disputes peacefully through negotiations and consultations.Hua Chunying made the comments following Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc's recent remarks on the South China Sea Issue.Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that his country has no intention of expanding its military presence in the region and wants to see the issue resolved peacefully.Hua Chunying said that both countries have had the experience in successfully resolving disputes through dialogues and negotiations."We believe that, as two friendly neighbors, China and Vietnam definitely have the wisdom and capability to settle their disputes through negotiation and consultation for the benefits of the two peoples and the two countries."Hua said the successful experience comes from solving the China-Vietnam land border issues left over from history after 3 decades of negotiation and consultation.The two sides signed and implemented 3 legal documents, thus changing the 1,450-kilometer boundary line from a defense front line into a bridge and a bond for the friendship and cooperation between the two peoples.Personnel and trade exchanges are active in the border area, and a meeting has also been held recently to review the 3 legal documents.

Syrian peace talks will not resume over the past 2-3 weeks The United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan De Mistura, has said Syrian peace talks are unlikely to resume in the next two to three weeks.De Mistura is once again stressing the need to see progress on the ground, particularly with regard to the cessation of hostilities.The announcement comes amid a grim humanitarian aid situation in Syria where much of the civilian population continues to face severe shortages of food, water and medical supplies.The U.N. had hoped to reach 1 million people in besieged areas with convoys of food aid this month.However, supplies have only reached some 160-thousand people so far.

Vigil for victms of EgyptAir crash Hundreds of people marched in Cairo on Thursday to commemorate the victims of EgyptAir flight MS-804.Mourners were joined by the Egyptian minister of civil aviation, Sherif Fathi, French ambassador to Egypt Andre Parant and EgyptAir staff, as they walked holding flowers and candles.The march in memory of the 66 victims was part of an initiative called "Together for the Sake of Life," led by Egyptian TV presenter Osama Kamal.Mourners placed flowers, candles and flags in front of a poster with pictures of the passengers and crew members of flight MS-804 at Cairo's Opera House.EgyptAir Flight MS-804, an Airbus A320, went missing from radar screens on May 19 en route from Paris to Cairo with 66 people on board, including 30 Egyptians and 15 French.The Egyptian forensic authority denied on Tuesday the circulated media reports that the analysis of body remains of some victims suggested an explosion ahead of its fall into the Mediterranean Sea.The Egyptian armed forces announced on Friday finding some personal belongings of the victims and small pieces of the plane wreckage in the Mediterranean Sea 290 kilometres north of the coastal city of Alexandria.
