这些书中有的确实很适合孩子阅读,有的却会给孩子恰好起到适得其反的作用
在这里,我希望跟大家分享的是根据蒙台梭利对儿童的理解,以及参照国际蒙台梭利协会的一些观点,如何为孩子选择合适的书籍
There have been so many medias talking about how to choose books for the children, and usually they would attach a colorful booklist. Among those books, some of them are really good for the children, but some of them are actually not suitable for them to read. Here I’d like to share the methods of choosing books for 3-6 years old children, based on Maria Montessori’s understanding of children, and according to some general ideas from AMI. 1. 合适的主题 Appropriate theme : 建立在孩子了解的真实世界基础上,建立在孩子自己真实的生活体验之上
比如:自然、生日聚会、看牙医、买东西、去学校、照顾他人、看望朋友等等
The books we choose for them should base on the real world that the children have already understood and the real life experience that they have already had. For example: nature, birthday party, go to the dentist, buy stuff, go to school, take care of someone, visit a friend, etc. a. 在书中不应出现不良示范的人物或动作
即便我们的目的是纠正孩子不去做这些事,我们也希望采用正面的积极引导的方式,而非否定反面的消极方式
(《大卫不可以》书系就是一个典型的负面引导的例子
) There should be no bad role model of any figures and any actions in the book. Even our goal is to correct the children’s bad behaviors, we still wish to use a positive way to guide the children, we tell them what we do, instead of telling them what we can’t do. (
孩子在 6 岁以前在理解和建构对周围环境和世界的理解,在此基础之上到了 6 岁以后,才充分开始发展想像力
所以这些书会适合在孩子能够完全区辨现实与幻想之后再提供给他们
但是假如在书中,动物以自然的存在方式存在在它们生存的环境中,用人语跟对方进行交谈,而并没有跟人类用人语交谈,这类书籍我们也是可以提供给孩子们的
一个经典的代表例子是:《猜猜我有多爱你》
No fantasy books: the fantasy books include: objects talk, animals dress and talk like human beings,objects or animals change their shapes, time traveling, Disney series, superstition and mythology, imagined friends, etc. Before 6, the children are constructing their understanding of their living environment and the whole world. So based on this foundation, they started building up their imagination after 6. Those fantasy books are good to offer to them by then. But if in a book, the animals are living in a natural environment like in the forest or in a zoo,they are acting like animals, then if they are talking to each other using human languages that would be okay. But if they are communicating with human beings using human languages, then that’s also fantasy. A classic example would be:
The children under 6 are not suitable for reading scary books. 2. 合适的语言 Appropriate language : 0-6 的孩子处于吸收性心智的时期,所以所选书中需要有丰富的大量的词汇,正确的语法和句子结构
语言不要过于简单或过于复杂,足够扩展孩子的词汇和语言结构可包含韵律
The children between 0-6 have absorbent mind, so the books need to offer rich vocabulary, correct grammar and sentence structure. The language should not be too simple or complex, but enough to expand the children’s vocabulary and language structure. May also include rhyming. 正确适当的用词,语法,标点符号,无脏话或不得体的语言,无婴儿语,不常用语,大量方言土语等
Correct and appropriate vocabulary, punctuation, no dirty words or improper language, no baby talk, no uncommon words, not to include a lot of local slangs. 3. 合适的插图 Appropriate illustrations: 真实,不卡通,风格各异,比如:手绘、摄影图片、水彩、拼贴、蜡笔画等
Real, not cartoon, a variety of styles, for example: hand drawn, photographs, water paint, collaged, crayon drawn, etc. 4. 故事情节 Story text: 可以让孩子理解的故事情节
故事应该生动有趣,围绕一个主线或主题,不应大量选择学科类教学书籍
选择的故事不应以说教为主要目的,不是所有的书都需要教孩子一个道理
故事不应太长,让孩子觉得无聊
这个阶段提供的书的内容不适宜涉及孩子无法完全理解的宏观沉重的社会性问题,比如流浪汉,世界战争等
Comprehensible content. The story should stay on one theme or topic, and be interesting. Please do not offer too many academic or scientific books. Choosing the stories not only for teaching the child a lesson, not all the books have to teach the child a principle. The story shouldn’t be too long and easily make the child bored. On this stage, the children could not quite understand the big and heavy social issues, such as homeless people, world wars etc, so wait until after 6 then offer them the books about these topics when the children are interested. 5. 书的质量 Book quality : 完整的,不残缺的书
如有选择,尽量选择硬皮的可以保存更久的书
书的每一页都应是完好的,修补过的,不缺页的,如果书本缺页了就不建议再给孩子阅读了
提供给孩子可以自己修补书的工具,比如:剪刀,透明胶等
Complete book. If there was an option, please choose to the hard covered books that can last longer. Each page of the book should be complete or fixed; no pages should be missing. If there were pages missing in a book, then please put away that book. Offer the children tools to fix a broken book, for example: scissors, tapes, etc. 6. 书的组成部分和印刷 Elements and printing of a book : 一本书有封面封底,最好有作者,插图作者,献给某人等
在读书的时候可以把这些部分读出来给孩子们
但假如一本书没有作者和插图作者姓名也是可以的,有的时候做好事也是可以不留名的
印刷的字体适宜,大小适宜,印刷清楚
A book should have the front cover and back cover. For the best, it should have the author, the illustrator, and it is written for whom.When we are reading a book, we can introduce these parts of a book as well. But if a book didn’t have the author or illustrator, it is still okay. Sometimes,when we do good things, we don’t always need to leave a name mark. The size of the printed characters should be suitable to read, and the printing should be clear. 7. 读书 Reading a book : 读书的时候示范给孩子正确的对待书的方式,如何翻页,如何照顾书,在什么时间和场合下读书
读书的人不可在读书的时候自由发挥随意篡改书的内容,假如书的一部分内容不喜欢可以选择不读这本书,这是忠于书的原著和对作者的尊重
When we are reading a book to the children, we are also demonstrating to them how to handle a book properly, how to turn the pages, how to look after a book, when and where should we read a book. The reader cannot freely change the words of the book into the way she wants it to be. If there are parts the reader didn’t like about the book, she can choose not to read it. It is for the respect of the author and the origin of the book. “授人以鱼不如授人以渔”
